Craft and Steward is free to read. Advertising and affiliate commissions are what pay for it, and this page explains exactly how that works.
The Plain Version
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, I may earn a small commission from the retailer. You pay the same price you would have paid anyway. If you buy nothing, nothing happens and it costs you nothing either way.
That’s the whole arrangement.
Where You’ll See The Disclosure
Any post containing affiliate links says so near the top, before you read a single recommendation. Not at the bottom, not in the footer, not on this page alone.
That matters because a disclosure you find after you’ve already clicked isn’t a disclosure, it’s an apology. The Federal Trade Commission’s guidance on endorsements asks for disclosures that are clear and hard to miss, and placing them above the recommendations is the honest reading of that.
What I Actually Link To
Craft supplies, art materials, kids’ scissors, glue, paint, cardstock and printer paper, storage for all of it, and the occasional printer. Things that belong on a craft table.
Worth saying plainly: most of what gets recommended here isn’t purchasable at all. Cereal boxes, egg cartons, toilet paper rolls, jar lids, and the broken crayons in the bottom of the drawer are the backbone of this site, and none of them pay anything. When a project works just as well with something already in your recycling bin, the post says so, because the alternative would be recommending a purchase you don’t need.
How I Choose What To Recommend
A product gets recommended because it worked for the project. That’s the only reason.
Commission rates differ between programs and between products, sometimes by a lot. Those differences don’t decide what appears in a post. If the cheaper option is fine, I’ll tell you it’s fine. If the expensive one is genuinely better and you’d notice the difference, I’ll tell you that too, and also whether it’s worth it for a craft you’ll do twice a year.
I don’t write about products I haven’t used.
Affiliate Cookies
When you click an affiliate link, the retailer usually sets a cookie so they can tell which site sent you. Depending on the program, that lasts anywhere from 24 hours to about 30 days.

Display Advertising
Separate from affiliate links, the site shows ads served by third party networks, including Google.
I don’t choose which individual ads appear, and their presence isn’t an endorsement of the advertiser or the product. If you see an ad here that’s broken, misleading, or inappropriate for a family site, tell me roughly what it was and where it appeared and I’ll report it. Reader reports are the main way publishers catch bad ads, since we see different ones than you do.
Sponsored Content
If a brand ever pays for a post, or sends a product for free in exchange for coverage, that post says so at the top in plain language. Every time, without exception, whether the coverage ends up positive or not.
Being paid doesn’t buy a good review. If I try something and it doesn’t work with kids, that’s what the post will say, and I’d rather lose the partnership than the reader.
